No Tax on School Stuff

Make sure you wait until August 6th to buy your kid's back to school clothes and supplies if you live in Illinois. The state is offering a sales tax holiday on these items from August 6th-15th.

Governor Pat Quinn sign legislation this week that will eliminate the state's five percent sales tax for those 10 days. The tax break applies to school supplies that are less than $100 and does not include computers, art supplies or textbooks. Local sales tax will still be charged.

The tax break is expected to save residents around $60 million. Illinois is the 14th state to enact a tax holiday for school related items.

I had my husband pick up some Super Hero t-shirts last week before they are all gone. I guess I could have save a few bucks had I waited. Still, I appreciate the tax break holiday. As kids get older, those supply lists get longer! Have you bought any back to school items yet?
