This is a really strange article from ABC that I link to below. It talks about a book that basically guesses on the reason why men cheat on their wives.
One theory is: men learn to cheat if they have more than one female caretaker. For instance, a mom and a nanny. I think that's pretty stupid. I would assume men cheat for a number of reasons, not just one. And I don't think a nanny has anything to do with it unless she is sleeping with the dad!
Just this week, a British psychiatrist blamed nannies for creating unfaithful husbands. In his new book, "An Unsolicited Gift," he describes the dueling affections at play when boys suckle on two metaphorical teats. Dr. Dennis Friedman, a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, theorizes that having two female caregivers subconsciously introduces the child to the "other woman," and to the concept that more than one woman can meet his needs.
Another theory: men are just made to cheat. They need to spread their oats. Come on! That is ridiculous! That one sounds like an excuse to me.
One expert offers her opinion on how to raise boys who do not cheat. Pepper Schwartz, a University of Washington sociologist who has written about sex and parenting, says boys who respect their mothers and sisters are more likely to understand women, "liking them as people, not as challenges." This is the only theory that actually made sense to me. I would think they learn by example.
