I recently joined the Pediatric Resource Council Board. The doctors who are part of the group are trained to know what evidence needs to be saved during child assault cases so it will be admissible in court. It is vital to get these kids examined correctly so they aren't sent back to an abusive home. Unfortunately, the Pediatric Resource Council is losing a $16,000 state DCFS grant. I know there area a lot of worthy causes that are not getting funded right now due to the state's deficit. This one just makes me sick. I can't imagine a child being put back into a home where they are being physically or sexually abused. It's so upsetting.
I recently interviewed a child counselor from the Center for Prevention of Abuse to find out the signs of child abuse, what is considered normal exploring of the body and when there's a red flag.
