If you're not planning on breastfeeding because you're modest, this may give you a reason to make a bigger effort-at least for the first 6 months of life. I know it's harder for some people than others, but this may be an incentive to try it.
FROM NBC: A study led by researchers at Erasmus Medical Center (The Netherlands) and published online in the European Respiratory Journal adds to the growing body of evidence that breastfeeding can be beneficial to an infant's respiratory system. Researchers in The Netherlands gathered data on 5-thousand children from birth through age 4. Those who were exclusively breastfed for at least 6 months had a lower risk of wheezing, shortness of breath, dry cough and persistent phlegm during those first 4 years of life compared to children who'd never been nursed. It's unclear why breastmilk appears to have this protective effect.
Kids who were fed other milk or solids during their first 4 months in addition to breast milk had an increased risk of wheezing, etc.
