Infants do feel pain

I hate to think about infants in pain. I always thought they were really impacted by those needle pricks :(

FROM NBC: Babies begin to recognize pain ... just before they are born.
That's according to British researchers who measured the brain waves of both full term and premature babies while their heels were pricked by a needle.

Premature babies had a similar brain response to pain ... as they did to basic touch.
But they noticed a change in the way the babies' brains responded to pain -- once they reached 35 to 37 weeks of gestation.

Researchers say preemies often grow up to be more or less sensitive to pain than usual -- and these findings could change the way they are treated and cared for after birth.
