Reusable Grocery Bag Danger

You may have heard those reusable grocery bags can harbor bacteria if they aren't cleaned often, but this concern may be even more dangerous. I would certainly prefer not to have lead rubbing off on my food and they food my growing kids eat! This is disturbing.

You know those reusable bags you get from the grocery store? Tests show there's lead in them... enough lead to cause concern among health experts. The Tampa Tribune paid for reusable bags from more than a dozen different grocery stores to be analyzed.

It says the tests show more lead in those bags than what is allowed in paint... and soon... kids toys. A quick rule of thumb: The plainer the bag, the better, experts say. That's because the more elaborate design on the bag-- the more likely it is to contain lead. If you want to stay away from reusuable shopping bags entirely... the testing lab owner suggests paper, which he says can be recycled.
