The sweet little one year old boy from Washington who was waiting for a heart transplant passed away this morning. Judah Kirkham had been living with a Berlin Heart(ventricular assist device) for the last three weeks. A ventricular assist device is a mechanical pump that takes over the function of the damaged ventricle of the heart and restores normal blood flow. It is used as a bridge before a heart transplant can be performed.
A few days after Judah got the Berlin, doctors noticed fibrin deposits in the pump. According to the family's Caring Bridge website, two days is very soon for this to happen. The pumps were replaced, but the fibrin came back. Then it happened again. His pumps were switched the end of last week, but the fibrin build up continued to be a problem. Judah had a stroke on Friday. This morning I logged on to his Caring Bridge website and found this message:
Just wanted to let all of you wonderful people out there. . . We lost our Littleman today. Pray for his little spirit. Pray that he is at peace. Bryan and Jen
It is so devastating to me. I can't imagine what his parents are going through. I just wish them peace and pray that the family can heal. I am blessed to have met the Littleman.
Please send the family your condolences either by posting a comment here or by posting a comment on Judah's Caring Bridge website.
