It is scary to think about a child having high blood pressure. What does that mean for their future health? It's usually preventable in kids.
FROM NBC: Overweight children are more likely to have high blood pressure. Researchers at Indiana University studied more than a thousand children over 5 years.
Most were 10 years old at the beginning of the study. When body mass index surpassed the 85th percentile, the risk of high blood pressure nearly tripled. Body mass index is a measure of height and weight. Experts say hypertension in childhood greatly raises the risk for high blood pressure in adulthood.
