Seatbelts on School Buses

Do you wish your child had a seatbelt on the school bus? Don't expect it to happen any time soon. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rejected a proposal by safety advocates to create a federal mandate that It would cost between $5500 and 7400 for each large school bus. The NHTSA also says the majority of fatalities involving school buses would not be preventing with seatbelts. Leaders say the close proximity of the seats and the cushions on the back of each seat are designed to prevent injury. On average, five children die on a school bus each year.
