Warning about teething medication

Fortunately for my kids, I was never organized enough to find the Orajel at our house or to continually apply it to the gums every few hours. I just let the kids chew on non-toxic toys for their teething and that seemed to work for them. I don't remember posting about this when the information came out last month, so I wanted to make sure you are aware the FDA is warning parents against using some teething medications if they contain benzocaine. Some of the brand names are Anbesol, Hurricaine, Orajel, Baby Orajel, and Orabase. Benzocaine can cause a life-threatening reduction in oxygen called methemoglobinemia. You can find more information on WebMD. The main thing to remember is not to use teething solutions or sprays on your kids. And I did get an email from a law firm representing parents who think their kids were injured by one of these teething medications. I cam email it to you if you are interested.
