Retailers Selling Tobacco to Minors

How easy is it for your child to get a pack of cigarettes? Are gas stations and convenience stores carding kids who might be under 18 years old? A new study says yes! I think that's great. If there's a way to deter kids from starting smoking, lets keep it up!

FROM NBC: Tobacco sales to kids under age 18 fell last year to an all-time low across the country.

A new report from the federal substance abuse and mental health services administration finds just under 10-percent of U.S. retailers had violations for selling tobacco to minors in 2010. That's down from nearly 11-percent from the previous year.

Retailers must have a violation rate of less than 20-percent to be in compliance with a federal-state partnership program aimed at reducing youth smoking.

The program involves unannounced, random inspections.
